The preliminary round of the contest was held virtually in August and after assessing his performance in this stage, the organizing committee confirmed Khani’s qualification to compete in the finals.

Earlier, Iranian qari Vahid Khazaei had also advanced to the final round of the contest in the recitation category.

The final round in both categories is slated to be held in person in the city of Konya next month.

The competition is annually organized by Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) with the participation of qaris and Quran memorizers from various countries.

The seventh edition was held in 2019 and the event was postponed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mojtaba Mohammadbeigi and Saeed Shahrokhi represented Iran in the 7th edition where the Iranian representative finished fifth in the recitation category.
